Mary today

Mary is the first disciple, and to know Mary is to know Jesus, to understand Mary is to understand Jesus.

History of the Catholic Church's veneration of Mary

The document considers the Biblical Mary and the Church's understanding throughout the post Biblical ages.

Mary, a Spirit-filled woman

A reflectionn on the Annunciation, with a closer focus on the relationship between Mary and the Holy Spirit at the moment of the Incarnation. - Pat Bearsley

Mary a woman of Faith

What seems to have been happening in the years since Vatican II is a change in our appreciation of Mary and her role in the world today. The practices of previous years no longer seem relevant to a great many Christians - not because they were wrong in themselves or not appropriate at that time - but because circumstances are now different and we have a different appreciation of Mary. - Pat Bearsley

Mary, a woman of the Spirit

As interest in the Holy Spirit developed in the Church and became an accepted facet of the life of the Church, a more mature appreciation of the place of Mary in Christian life became apparent. It was seen that she was a Woman of the Spirit. - Pat Bearsley

Mary, Icon of the Spirit

At Pentecost there is obviously no question of a physical conception. But Mary does once again cooperate with the Holy Spirit in bringing forth a new creation - the mystical Christ, the Church. And just as at the Annunciation Mary's unique contribution to the conception of the Son of God was to give Him his humanity, can we say that her contribution at the birth of the Church was to give the disciples their "discipleship"? - Pat Bearsley

Mary on Calvary

The end of the Gospel story is where Mary becomes the mother of the Church, the mystical body of Christ. In this article we shall reflect on Mary on Calvary. - Pat Bearsley

Mary the disciple

Mary is mentioned for the last time in the New Testament in the opening chapter of the Acts of the Apostles. There she is pictured with the Apostles, praying and waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. This last glimpse of her evokes a powerful image that has been retained faithfully in the Church's memory down through the ages. - Pat Bearsley

Mary the first disciple

She may be the the most famous woman who ever lived, and yet there is surprisingly little in the New Testament about her. Mary is featured only in a few Gospel scenes and the first chapter of Acts. While the New Testament says little about her, what it does say, though, speaks volumes. - Raymond E Brown SS

Metamorphosis of Mariology

Marian theologians seem to be shaking off their dogmatic slumbers and emerging again with something valuable and relevant to say in today's world.

The place of Mary among Marists today

A Montfort Father, a Marist, a Marianist, and a Sister of Nazareth, were invited to answer the question: "In your congregation today, how does your manner of setting forth devotion to Mary, together with your practice of it, accord with the insights of your founder on the subject?"

The Mary Page

The Mary page is maintained by The Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute at the University of Dayton in Ohio. It is an international center of research and study on the role of Mary in Christian life.
